2015 IPC World Championships begin Thursday in Doha, Qatar

Doha, Qatar - The 2015 International Paralympic Committee World Athletics Championships begin Thursday October 22 in Doha, Qatar. The Canadian roster includes 13 gold medallists from the 2015 Parapan Am Games, including Alexandre Dupont of Clarenceville, Que., and Brent Lakatos of Dorval, Que., who won three gold each.

You can watch all 70-hours of live action from the 2015 IPC Athletics World Championships featuring 1,400 athletes from 100 countries contesting 214 medal events in the final major international event ahead of the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio. 

Overall at the Parapan Am Games the team won 43 medals placing third overall in the country standings behind Brazil and the United States.

At the last IPC World Championships in 2013 (Lyon, France) Canada won 15 medals, including seven gold, and set 19 Canadian records. Brent Lakatos led the way with four gold medals. Lakatos will have an opportunity to get things rolling immediately on day one of competition in the 100-metres T53 classification. Other athletes with a shot at the podium on the first day of competition are Jason Roberts of Toronto in the F34 javelin, Josh Farrell of Port Elgin, Ont., in the F21 shot put and Ness Murby of Salt Spring Island, B.C., in the F11 javelin.
