Athletics Canada confirmed today the schedule and slate of events for the 2017 National Track League (NTL). NTL 2017 will begin June 10 in Halifax, N.S., with the Aileen Meagher International Track Classic. The series will then make a stop in Guelph, Ont., on June 14, and concludes in Coquitlam, B.C., on June 28.
Once again, this year, the Speed River Inferno in Guelph also serve as Athletics Canada’s national championship for the men’s and women’s senior and U20 10,000-metres.
NTL 2017 is a rare opportunity for Canadian fans to watch their Rio heroes in person as they tune up for the 2017 World Athletics Championships in London, UK, August 4 to 13.
A number of Canadian stars are already confirmed for the circuit, including triple Olympic medallist Andre De Grasse and 800-metre superstar Melissa Bishop. Over the coming weeks Halifax, Guelph and Harry Jerome will confirm additional Canadian and international stars.
NTL 2017 will also play an important role as athletes prepare for the Canadian Track and Field Championships, which serves as the selection meet for the World Championships.
NTL, entering its sixth season, offers Canadian athletes an opportunity to compete against elite international competition on home soil, and provides breakthrough opportunities for up and coming athletes.
