Athletics Canada congratulates Abby Hoffman, David Weicker and Thelma Wright on IAAF election

On the eve of competition at the 2015 IAAF World Championships in Beijing, China, Athletics Canada congratulates Abby Hoffman, David Weicker and Thelma Wright in their successful election during the IAAF Congress held this week. 

Abby Hoffman was elected as a Female Individual Member on the IAAF Council. David Weicker was elected to the IAAF Technical Committee and Thelma Wright to the IAAF Cross Country Committee.

“I would like to express our gratitude to the international athletics community in expressing their confidence in the Canadian candidates, allowing us to make a positive contribution as the sport moves into a new era,” said Gord Orlikow, Chair, Athletics Canada. Orlikow adds, “On behalf of the Canadian athletics community I offer sincere congratulations to Seb Coe on his election to IAAF President.”

Athletics Canada also recognizes Tim Berrett who had a strong showing in voting for the IAAF Race Walking Committee.

With administrative procedures completed in Beijing the focus now turns to competition with ten Canadians in action on day of one of the 2015 IAAF World Championships. Day one of competition begins tomorrow morning in Beijing, late this evening in Canada.
