Athletics Canada reveals annual award winners

2016 was an outstanding year that saw Canadian athletes make their mark on the international stage, culminating with the Rio Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Over the course of the next two weeks, Athletics Canada will reveal its 2016 annual award winners on athletics.local, Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. Each day an award winner will be publicized.

The 2016 Athletics Canada annual award winners will officially be recognized in Ottawa on July 5 as part of a special ceremony at the 2017 Canadian Track & Field Championships. The ceremony will also include the induction of the 2017 Hall of Fame Class. Hall of Fame inductees will be revealed in early May.

April 7 – Eric E. Coy Memorial Trophy / Junior Athlete of the Year  - Robert Heppenstall

April 8 – Jane & Gerry Swan Award / Development Coach of the Year - Tony Sharpe

April 9 – Dr. Doug Clement Award / Coach of the Year - Stuart McMillan 

April 10 – Arnold Boltd Award / Ambulatory Athlete of the Year - Alister McQueen

April 11 – Fred Begley Memorial Trophy / Off Track Athlete of the Year - Evan Dunfee

April 12 – Lyle Sanderson Award / Combined Events Athlete of the Year - Brianne Theisen-Eaton

April 13 – Fred Tees Memorial Trophy / Canadian University Athlete of the Year - Brittany Crew

April 14 – Phil A. Edwards Memorial Trophy / Track Athlete of the Year - Andre De Grasse

April 15 – F.N.A. Rowell Trophy / Field Athlete of the Year - Derek Drouin

April 16 – Chantal Petitclerc Award / Wheelchair Athlete of the Year - Michelle Stilwell

April 18 – Cal D. Bricker Memorial Trophy / Outstanding Performance of the Year - Derek Drouin

April 19 – Jack W. Davis Award / Overall Athlete of the Year - Andre De Grasse
