The Canadian athletics family lost a great man yesterday, Gerard Mach passed away at the age of 89 in Ottawa. Gerard was one of the first four professional coaches in Canadian athletics (1973), and the first for sprints and hurdles. He was the Head Coach at the 1976 Montreal Olympic Games.
Athletics Canada wishes to pass along our deepest condolences to the Mach family. Gerard is one of Canada's greatest coaching minds, and is still a huge influence to many of today's track and field coaches.
Gerard was inducted to the Athletics Canada Hall of Fame in 2011.
Rest in Peace Gerard.
