Athletics Canada’s East Hub to host final High Performance Coaching Clinic ahead of 2018 outdoor season

Ottawa – Athletics Canada announced today that it will host a High Performance Coaching Clinic at its East Hub in Toronto on Saturday, March 24 – the final in a four-clinic series. The monthly clinics have been offered as a professional development service to coaches and to advance the culture of coaching excellence in Canada.

The March 24 clinic will cover various topics from strength training to coaching athletes in multiple disciplines, in addition to the importance of nutrition as it relates to performance. Coaches will hear from several guest speakers, including Boo Schexnayder, a leading authority in training design.

Speakers scheduled to take part in the coaching clinic include, Jason Kerr (associate head coach for the University of Guelph track and field team and Speed River Track & Field Club), Jordan Foley (strength and conditioning coach for the University of Guelph football team, Triathlon Canada NTC Guelph and Speed River Track & Field Club), Jen Sygo (East Hub nutritionist) and Sue Wise (former Athletics Ontario coaching lead).

Cost: $50, includes lunch

2:10 p.m. - 3:10 p.m.: Strength training periodization for speed/power events - Part 1 (Boo Schexnayder)
3:20 p.m. - 4:20 p.m.: Sprint hurdles: Simplified cause & effect coaching strategies (Jason Kerr)
4:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.: Strength training periodization for speed/power events - Part 2 (Boo Schexnayder)
