Brent Lakatos earns second gold of 2015 IPC World Championships

Doha, Qatar - Three days removed from victory in the T53 100-metres, Brent Lakatos of Dorval, Que., added another gold, this time in the 200-metres at the 2015 International Paralympic Committee (IPC) World Championships. “Obviously, really, really happy with the result today. It is going well this week. Everything is working out great. The goal is to win events and show everyone what they are up against for Rio.” Lakatos took the T53 200-metres title in at time of 25.79.

Jean-Philippe Maranda of Ste. Aurélie, Que., was sixth in the T53 100-metres final in 28.38. "I’m very happy with my 200-meters.  With my season’s start, planning wasn’t optimal.  I’m really happy with this sixth place." 

In the women’s T53 400-metres final Ilana Dupont of Saskatoon, Sask., raced to a time of 1:02.99 placing seventh. "I came out of the semi-final rank 8th and we worked on some hands speed coming out of the warm up. I think I really pull it together and I finished seventh. I am really, really happy about the results!” 

Earlier in the day Jessica Frotten of Whitehorse, Yukon, failed to advance to the T53 400-metres final. She finished fifth in the first semi-final in 1:06.15. Dupont advanced to the final with a clocking of 1:04.02 in the second semi-final. 

Richard Carr of Port Elgin, Ont., placed fifth in the F11 javelin throw with a best toss of 24.58-metres. 

Leah Robinson of Kitchener, Ont., was sixth in the T37 400-metres final in 1:12.87. 

Kevin Strybosch of London, Ont., record a seasonal best of 11.02-metres in the F37 shot put final placing eleventh overall. 

Canada field a pair of competitors in the T54 5000-metres semi-finals. Josh Cassidy of Port Elgin, Ont., was up first in heat 1, he finished fourth, one spot out of the auto-qualifier position in a time of 11:33.01. Tristan Smyth of Maple Ridge, B.C., placed ninth in the third heat in 12:03.83. Neither men qualified for the final. 

Dustin Walsh of Coquitlam, B.C., and guide runner Dylan Williamson, also from Coquitlam, B.C., were third in their heat of the T11 400-metres semi-finals in 55.98. They did not advance to the final.
