The Canadian U18 team recorded twelve podium finishes at the 2017 Commonwealth Youth Games.
To start Day 3 of the competition, Samual Hall of Colborne, Ont., cleared a height of 2.09m. His performance was good enough to secure a high jump silver medal. In the women’s 100-metre hurdle final, Katarina Vlahovic of Surrey, B.C., hurdled her way to a bronze medal in 13.58.
In the women’s 3000-metres, Brogan MacDougall of Kingston, Ont., crossed the line in 9:29.34 for a bronze medal finish. Shorty after MacDougall, Joshua Desouza of Brampton, Ont., made it two 3000m-metre podium finishes for Canada. His time of 8:35.15 was good for the silver medal.
Aurora Rynda of Toronto wrapped up Day 3 with a bronze medal finish in the 800-metres. She outdistanced the fourth place competitor by .29 seconds in 2:06.38 to earn her podium spot.
Sharelle Samuel of Nepean, Ont., was the highlight of Day 4 at the Commonwealth Youth Games. Samuel ran 59.59 to win silver in the women’s 400-metre hurdles. After crossing the line first in the mixed 4x400-metre relay, the team was disqualified for running out the exchange zone.
