CBC Sports brings Canadians Diamond League series and Track & Field in the 6ix

AthleticsCanada.tv to broadcast five Canadian championships

Ottawa– Athletics Canada and CBC Sports are making it even easier for track and field fans across the country to follow Canada’s top athletes throughout the 2018 outdoor season with live coverage of the 2018 IAAF Diamond League series, 2018 NACAC Championships (Toronto 2018: Track & Field in the 6ix) and five Canadian championship events.

Earlier this week, CBC Sports announced its extensive coverage plans for the 2018 IAAF Diamond Leagueseries, which includes a total of 14 invitational one-day track and field meets taking place across Asia, Europe, Africa and North America over the course of four months. Each meet will feature several of the biggest names in athletics, including Rio 2016 triple-medallist Andre De Grasse in the men’s 100-metres and 200-metres (Doha, May 4; Shanghai, May 12; and London, July 21-22); 2018 Commonwealth Games gold medallist in pole vault, Alysha Newman (Doha, May 4); Olympian Sage Watson in the 400-metre hurdles (Shanghai, May 12); 2018 Commonwealth Games double-silver medallist Mohammed Ahmed in the two-mile race (Eugene, May 26); and four-time Canadian champion and Canadian record-holder Matt Hughes in the men’s 3,000-metre steeplechase (Eugene, May 26).

CBC Sports will provide live-streaming coverage of every Diamond League meet at cbcsports.ca and via the CBC Sports app for iOS and Android devices, while television coverage will be featured as part of CBC Sports’ weekend staple Road to the Olympic Gamesthroughout the season. As part of Athletics Canada’s four-year media rights partnership with CBC, the network will also bring Canadians up to two hours of live coverage of the 2018 NACAC Championships (Toronto 2018: Track & Field in the 6ix) on Aug. 11 and up to two more hours of live coverage on Aug. 12.

“Athletics Canada is thrilled to team up with CBC to bring unprecedented athletics coverage to new and existing fans of the sport. CBC is an important partner and a champion of the Olympic and Paralympic movement as a whole,” said Athletics Canada’s Chief Operating Officer Mathieu Gentès. “Our relationship has allowed us to bring unparalleled coverage in 2018 from high school athletics to the culminating event, Toronto 2018: Track & Field in the 6ix this August.”

AthleticsCanada.tv will round out the 2018 broadcast schedule by live-streaming the 2018 Canadian Track & Field Championships taking place in Ottawa from July 3-8, in addition to the Canadian 10km Championships, Canadian Half Marathon Championships, Canadian Marathon Championships and Canadian Cross Country Championships. AthleticsCanada.tv will also bring you live coverage of the provincial high school championships in Alberta, British Columbia and Ontario.
