CHAMPIONSHIP AWARDS
All awards will be presented on-site as outlined in the schedule.
Individual Championships
U18, U20 and Senior
Championship medals will be awarded to the first three eligible finishers in each division at the awards ceremony. Only Canadian citizens can win individual Canadian Championship medals. Top 10 finishers will be acknowledged as part of the awards ceremony in these categories.
Canadian Team Championships
U18, U20 and Senior
A: Team/Club Championships and B: Team/Region-Branch Championships
There will be a Canadian Championship competition for Club and Region-Branch in the U18, U20 and Senior categories. Championship medals will be awarded to members of the top three teams. Team size for both team championships (A and B) will be up to six (with top four scoring) for all divisions. Team scores will be tabulated based on overall placings in the official results. Ties will be decided in favour of the team whose last scoring member finishes nearer to the first-place position.
Please note:
Club teams DO NOT need to declare. Region-Branch teams need to declare in advance. Please send your declarations to Mitchell Torres at Mitchell.Torres@athletics.ca by 5 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 23.
All competitors on a Club team must be bona fide paid members of the same club. As far as teams are concerned, Canadian permanent residents, non-Canadian residents (claiming refugee status), foreign athletes and athletes that have been members of Athletics Canada for at least six months prior to the Championships, can be scoring members for their team. However, they still are not eligible to win individual Canadian Championship medals.
Masters Awards
Individual age group Master’s medals, Club team awards and the GAAT Trophy will be presented on-site.
Individual Awards
The top three male and female Canadian residents in each Master’s five-year age category will receive CMA medals. In addition, any non-residents finishing in the top three in any age group will receive duplicate medals.
Club Team Awards – 10-Year Age Groups
M70+ and W60+ can declare up to three runners (top two score). All other age categories can declare up to four runners (top three score). Team scoring will be based on total time. Females may run on male teams, but not the reverse. Club teams must declare by 7 p.m. ET on Thursday, Nov. 22, by emailing mastersdeclarations@gmail.com.
Provincial Team Competition – GAAT Trophy
Results will be based on the top four age-graded provincial results, of whom one must be from each gender. These teams do not have to be declared.
FREE COACH EDUCATION OPPORTUNITY
Alex Hutchinson on the Science of Endurance
Date: Friday, Nov. 23
Time: 8 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
Location: Ambassador Hotel & Conference Centre (1550 Princess Street, Kingston, ON K7M 9E3)
Great coaches have always known that races aren’t won only with VO2max and lactate threshold, in addition to other “physical” traits. But scientists have only recently started to delve into the role of the mind in setting our physical limits. In this talk, Alex Hutchinson will discuss what the latest science tells us about the limits of endurance, and how that knowledge can be incorporated into training and racing plans.
Hutchinson is an author and journalist in Toronto, and the author of the recent New York Times bestseller ENDURE: Mind, Body, and the Curiously Elastic Limits of Human Performance. His primary focus these days is the science of endurance and fitness, which he covers for Outside (where he’s a contributing editor and writes the Sweat Science column), The Globe and Mail (where he writes the Jockology column) and Canadian Running magazine.
He also holds the indoor 1500m record at McGill University and represented Canada on several occasions.
TECHNICAL NOTES
- There will not be a technical meeting. All information pertaining to the Championships is contained on the 2018 Canadian Cross Country Championships webpage. Any questions will be answered at race kit pick-up or can be submitted via email to Mitchell Torres at Mitchell.Torres@athletics.ca by 5 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 23. Regional Team declarations also need to be submitted via email by 5 p.m.
- Doping control tests may be conducted at the 2018 Canadian Cross Country Championships.
- On event day, athletes will be prohibited from warming up or cooling down on the race course. The fields surrounding the course provide plenty of room for warm-up and cool down. Please stay off of the CFB Kingston property located to the east of the course.
-
Please note: All second-year U20 athletes will be provided with two competition bibs to wear during their race.
