Le dimanche 11 septembre, le Championnat canadien du 5 km de course sur route sera chaudement disputé, autant du côté des femmes que des hommes.  Les olympiens Charles Philibert-Thiboutot (Québec, record personnel – 13:33), Nathan Brannen (Cambridge, Ont., record personnel – 13:43) et Lucas Bruchet (Surrey, C.-B., record personnel – 13:24)  essaieront de briser le record en sol canadien de 14:06, établi par le Kenyan Wesley Korir lors de cet événement en 2012. 

Chez le femmes, les olympiennes Jessica O’Connell (Calgary, record personnel – 15:06) et Andrea Seccafien (Toronto, record personnel – 15:17) se joindront aux médaillées des Jeux panaméricains Sasha Gollish (Toronto) et Rachel Hannah (Toronto), lorsqu’elles essaieront d’abaisser le record en sol canadien de 15:48, établi par Malinda Elmore en 2012, à Sidney, C.-B.
