Athletics Canada announced today that Georges Laraque has joined the Bruny Surin Celebrity Sprint Challenge, which takes place Friday February 20 as part of the 2015 Hershey Canadian Indoor Championships in Montreal, Que at Complexe Sportif Claude-Robillard.
Georges Laraque enjoyed a 13-year career in the NHL playing for the Edmonton Oilers, Phoenix Coyotes, Pittsburg Penguins and Montreal Canadiens. Since his retirement he has been very active as a speaker on various topics such as sports, motivation, racism, bullying, veganism, business, charities and politics.
Laraques recently signed a contract with Lokomotiv Fana of the Norwegian second division. He will begin play with the Norwegian team in March.
Georges is heavily involved in various charities such as World Vision, Mira Foundation and Team-In-Training. He finished third in the previous edition of the 60-metres Celebrity Sprint Challenge posting a time of 8.93 seconds. The unofficial record in the event is held by Kyries Hebert of the Montreal Alouettes, he took first last year in 7.83 seconds.

The Celebrity Sprint Challenge is a joint venture between Athletics Canada and Bruny Surin to help profile healthy active living through sport, while raising funds for the Bruny Surin Foundation.
