Ilana Dupont of Saskatoon, Sask., placed eighth in the women’s T53 classification wheelchair 100-metres today at the Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. Dupont crossed the finish line in the final in a time of 17.82-seconds, "I had a good start, but the second half of the race was not as strong. I am a little bit disappointed, but excited for the 400-metres on Saturday."
Dupont advanced to the final with a time of 17.81 in the day’s morning session.
In the men’s F37 classification discus final, Kevin Strybosch of London, Ont., was ninth with a best throw of 41.81-metres.
Day 2 preview
Five Canadian athletes are in action on day two of the Paralympic Games. Leading things off are Brent Lakatos of Dorval, Que., and Jean-Philippe Maranda of Sherbrooke, Que., in the heats of the T53 classification wheelchair 100-metres at 10:00 a.m. local time (Rio de Janeiro). Lakatos and Maranda will be looking to advance to the final which is slated for tomorrow’s evening session 7:19 p.m.
Also in action, Alister McQueen of Calgary, Alta., in the F44 classification javelin final, Josh Cassidy of Guelph, Ont., in the heats of the T54 classification 5000-metres and Ness Murby of Salt Spring Island, B.C., in the final of the F11 class discus final.
