Jenna Martin-Evans, 400-metres specialist, and a London 2012 Olympian is excited at the prospect of returning home to compete at the Aileen Meagher International Track Classic in Halifax, N.S., on June 2. The Aileen Meagher is the second of five events in the 2015 National Track League. The international Grand Prix series begins in Guelph on May 30, and will also visit Vancouver (June 8), Victoria (June 10) and Edmonton (July 12).
This is a comeback year for Jenna. "This year has been interesting. Coming off an injury last year has been very challenging, and we are still cautious in training, training smart. It has been a slow start but it is a very long summer so that is exciting. I'm just thankful to be able to compete again!"
The Aileen Meagher Internaional Track Classic is just six weeks away and her season preparation will soon be put to the test.
"I am in Florida now training and competing until May 4. I will get another good block of training in and then race at the Meagher. The Meagher fits in nice to my competition plan because it will help kick off the Canadian meets and be the start of my final prep for nationals."
While success in the 2015 season is a goal in itself, Rio 2016 looms large for Martin-Evans.
"My goal for 2015 is definitely to make the World Championships team, to be healthy and strong coming into training for Rio, that would be wonderful!
I'm so excited to be going back home and to compete in Nova Scotia again." Watch for this wonderfully talented runner to make a good impression back on her native turf."
