Brent Lakatos of Dorval, Que., will get a shot at a fourth medal at the 2016 Paralympic Games. Lakatos, Curtis Thom of Mississauga, Ont., Tristan Smyth of Maple Ridge, B.C., and Alex Dupont of Clarenceville, Que., combined to record a time of 3:11.41 and advance to tomorrow’s final of the T53/54 4x400-metres relay. Their time was good for third place in their heat, and establishes a new Canadian and North American record. 

Alex Dupont, the team’s anchor, "I think we had a good race. We had all kind of challenges in preparation for the race but the important thing is that we made it to the final." 

Preview – Saturday September 17

In tomorrow’s morning session Diane Roy of Sherbrooke, Que., races in the T54 wheelchair 800-metre heats, while Ilana Dupont of Saskatoon, Sask., competes in the heats of the T53 wheelchair 800-metres.

Also in the morning, Michelle Stilwell races for her second gold medal of the Games in the T52 wheelchair 100-metres. Earlier this week Stilwell won gold in the T52 400-metres.

The morning session will close with Marissa Papaconstantinou of Toronto in the T44 (amputee) 100-metre heats.

The evening session features the final of the men’s wheelchair T53/54 4x400-metres.

Jenn Brown of Calgary, Alta., and Renée Foessel of Mississauga, Ont., throw in the F38 discus final.

If they advance out of the morning session, Diane Roy and Ilana Dupont will race in the T54 and T53 800-metre finals respectively.

Also pending advancement out of the morning session’s heats, Marissa Papaconstantinou races in the final of the T44 100-metres. ­
