Melisa Bishop is the Canadian record holder in the 800-metres. In 2012, Bishop competed for Canada at the London Summer Olympics in the 800-metres. She won gold in the 800-metres at the 2015 Pan Am Games. Bishop’s successful 2015 continued at the IAAF World Championships in Beijing, China. In the semifinal, Bishop broke the Canadian 800-metre record with a time of 1:57.52. The following day she won the silver medal in the final. In 2016, Bishop established a new Canadian indoor record in the 800-metres running 2:00.19 at the Glasgow Indoor Grand Prix.

Bishop is a graduate of the University of Windsor and was the third Canadian woman to achieve a time under 2:00 minutes in the 800m.
