Jean-Philippe Maranda

Birthdate : 1 November 1986

Birthplace : Canada

Hometown : Sherbrooke

Language : French

Provincial affiliation : Athletics Quebec

Club : Sherbrooke

Coach : Jean Laroche

Jean-Philippe Maranda was encouraged by legendary Paralympic athletics Jean Laroche to get into wheelchair racing. It appears to be a great decision as Miranda has gradually improved after taking up the sport in 2010.

In 2015, he won his first international medal at the Toronto 2015 Parapan American Games with a bronze in the 100m. He also raced in three events at the 2013 and 2015 IPC World Championships.

Before his accident, Maranda was the Canadian weightlifting record holder at clean and jerk in 2006. At that time, he was ranked first Canadian overall. He earned a spot on the national para-athletics team after two years of wheelchair racing.
