In 2015, Guillaume Ouellet produced a breakthrough season with the gold medal in the 1500m at the Toronto 2015 Parapan American Games and victory in the 5000m at the IPC World Championships.

The visually impaired runner (who has enough vision to run without a guide) also gained valuable experience at the 2013 IPC World Championships with a fourth place in the 1500-m final.

Ouellet has retinitis pigmentosa, which has left him with a field of vision of about 10 degrees.
