Full results from the 2017 World Para Athletics Championships

Wednesday evening’s session of the 2017 World Para Athletics Championships featured a trio Canadian aiming for podium finishes. After his bronze medal finish at 5000-metres, Guillaume Oullet of Victoriaville, Que. competed in the men’s T13 1500-metre final. Ouellet placed eighth in season’s best time of 3:59.10. In the next final on the track, Dianne Roy of Lac-des-Aigles, Que., crossed the line eight in women’s T54 800-metre final. Later Ilana Dupont of Saskatoon, Sask., continued the string of eighth place finishes with a time of 1:01.22 in the women’s T53 400-metre final.

In Wedneday’s qualifying sections, Brent Lakatos of Dorval, Que., advanced to Thursday evening’s T53 800-metre final. While he placed second in the first section, Lakatos looks poised to make a go for another gold medal. George Quarcoo of Toronto ran a personal best of 23.19 in the men’s T12 200-metre heats. Quarcoo was two positions away from advancing to the next round. Alex Dupont of Clarencevill, Que., Isaiah Christophe of Brampton, Ont., and Curtis Thom of Missassauga, Ont., each took part in the men’s T54 400-metre heats but did not advance to the final.

Thursday Preview

Renée Foessel of Orangeville, Ont., and  Jennifer Brown of Calgary are currently ranked #2 and #3 in the world in the women’s T38 discus. Foeseel won the 2015 Parapan American Games in discus. If Foessel and Brown have a good night, we may see two Canadian on the podium after Thursday evening’s final.

Brent Lakatos will go for his third title at the 2017 championships in the men’s T53 800-metre final. Lakatos set the world record in the event easier this year with a time of 1:31.91. Austin Smeenk of Oakville, Ont., will take part in the men’s T34 800-metre final.
