2018 NACAC Track & Field Championships

About the event

The NACAC Championships feature the best national team athletes from the 31 NACAC area member countries (North America, Central America and Caribbean Athletics).

The event is typically held in early August.

History of host cities

2015 – San Jose, Costa Rica  

Athletics Canada is now inviting interested parties to submit a letter of intent to host a championship event. Letters of intent must include the following information:

  • Name and location of facility / event
  • Name[s] and position[s] of key event organizer[s] including proposed Meet Director
  • Commitment in principle to work with NACAC and its corporate and funding partners in hosting and presenting all aspects of the event
  • Summary of previous hosting experience
  • Provincial branch endorsement
  • Host facility endorsement
  • Corresponding application fee of $500

Bid Timelines:

Circulation of Bid Opportunity – August 2, 2016
Letter of Intent due to Athletics Canada – September 30, 2016
Bid Proposal due to Athletics Canada – November 30, 2016
Decisions and notifications – December 6-9, 2016
Host Announcement – December 11, 2016

General Requirements

The following general requirements are necessary for the successful hosting of the event:

  1. The Province of Ontario is the preferred location for this event
  2. Minimum 7500 seat stadium
  3. Minimum IAAF Class II facility
  4. Facility must have high definition videoboard, or plans to bring in high definition videoboard
  5. Warm-up track / facilities adjacent to the competition stadium
  6. Appropriate facilities for CCES (doping control) and medical staff
  7. Appropriate facilities for technical meetings and other meetings as necessary
  8. Hotel beds for approximately 1500 plus people
  9. Transportation shuttle / service from main meet hotel(s) to competition stadium
  10. Transportation from airport to main meet hotel(s)
  11. Transportation from main meet hotel(s) to training track / stadium
  12. Dedicated internet connections for Live Streaming, Live Results, and attending working media
  13. Dedicated on-site space for webcast production unit and camera platforms (existing or temporary structure)
  14. Dedicated space for Athletics Canada merchandise and event apparel pop up shop (existing or temporary structure)
  15. Organization and delivery of NACAC Congress held as part of NACAC Track & Field Championships

Summary of financial obligations / benefits

Athletics Canada is responsible for overall approval and management of the event budget, with input from the HOC. The following is a general outline of expected revenues and expenses.

Athletics Canada is leading the Sport Canada revenue application, the HOC must provide matching municipal and / or provincial funding.

The information on this factsheet is subject to change.  Final details will be included in the Bid Package.  The fact sheet is intended to provide potential organizers with general guidelines on the requirements on organizing the event.  A successful host city candidate is required to sign a Memorandum of Understanding which is a legally binding document.
