Trio of Olympians to lead Canada at the 2017 Pan American Race Walking Cup

Athletics Canada has named five athletes to the team that will compete at the 2017 Pan American Race Walking Cup in Lima, Peru, on May 13-14. Athletes from Canada will take part in the men’s 20km, men’s 50km and U20 men’s 10km competitions.

Leading the way for Canada will be Olympians Benjamin Thorne of Kitimat, B.C. (20km), Evan Dunfee of Richmond, B.C. (20km), and Mathieu Bilodeau of Calgary (50km). Thorne won a bronze medal in the 20km Race Walk at the 2015 IAAF Track & Field Championships, while Dunfee placed fourth in the 50km discipline at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.

In the 2015 edition of the event, Dunfee placed fourth while Thorne placed 10th overall to help take home the team title in the 20km competition. The duo will be joined by 20 year-old Marek Adamowicz of St-Bruno-de-Montarville, Que., with the goal of repeating as team champions.
