Trio of sprinters look to bring Canadian 400-metres back to the world stage

A trio of Canadian 400-metre sprinters, Philip Osei of Toronto, Graeme Thompson of Port Hope, Ont., and Rayshaun Franklin of Scarborough, Ont., will compete in the men’s 400-metres at the Speed River Inferno Track and Field Meet. Their goal will be to dip under the IAAF World Championships qualifying standard of 45.50.

Osei represented Canada in the 400-metres at the 2015 IAAF World Championships and has been the stalwart quarter-miler over the past half-decade. Up and coming university student-athletes Thompson and Franklin both represented Canada this past spring at the IAAF World Relays in the Bahamas as members of the 4x400-metres relay.

The Canadians will be up against 2009 IAAF World Championships bronze medallist Renny Quow of Trinidad and Tobago and Jermaine Gayle of Jamaica.

The Speed River Inferno, the second of three stops on the 2017 National Track League circuit, takes place June 14 at 7PM at the University of Guelph Alumni Stadium. The 2017 National Track League includes stops in Halifax (June 10) and Coquitlam (June 28).
