Update on NACAC U18 Championships / Youth Olympic Games Trials

Late last week Athletics Canada received details from NACAC on the date and location of the 2018 NACAC U18 Championships. We appreciate your patience as we worked to get this information out, unfortunately until NACAC confirmed this information were not in a position to finalize selection criteria and qualification period.

The NACAC U18 Championships serve as the selection trials for the Youth Olympic Games. The NACAC Technical committee will be selecting the Youth Olympic Games team from the NACAC U18 Championships / Youth Olympic Games Trials.

Staff worked through the weekend and we’re happy to now post the full selection criteria.

Key information

Location: Managua, Nicaragua
Competition date: June 21 to 23

Qualification Period: April 1 2018 to June 10 2018
Declaration Deadline: June 10
Selection Date: June 11
Depart Canada: June 18

We are aware there will be a short turnaround between selection date and departure date, however we felt it was very important to include a qualification period that includes all provincial high school championships. Our staff will work hard with athletes, coaches, clubs and branches to ensure a smooth transition from selection on June 11 to departure date on June 18.
