Heading into ACXC2018…

Are you looking to earn a spot for the NACAC XC Championships, IAAF XC Championships or both?
Gunning to place better than last year (10th place) and if that’s good enough to get on one of those teams, that’s even better.

What is your favourite/least favourite section of the course in Kingston?
My favourite section of the course has to be the snake-like loops that come down and back through the crowds towards the end of the 2.5-kilometre loop. There is always a good source of energy coming from that area, even in the frigid cold and usually, mucky conditions. With that being said, I don’t necessarily have a least favourite section of the course, I just always find the conditions to be everyone’s least enjoyable aspect of the Championships.

Favourite post-race snack:
If it’s a snack trail-mix (with M&M’s), if it’s a meal minestrone soup and a turkey sandwich.

Who is on your XC dream team:
Worldwide: Kenenisa Bekele, Garrett Heath, Joshua Cheptegei, Geoffrey Kamworor and Bedan Karoki
Canadian: Mohammed Ahmed, Justyn Knight, Ben Flannagan, Cameron Levins, Lucas Bruchet and Charles Philibert-Thiboutot

I can’t run without:
My gold chain and GPS watch on; I feel naked without them.

Get to know Corey better…

What is something you hate that you wish you loved?
Ice baths. I love the feeling after, but hate the process and idea of them!

What/where is the funniest place you have ever fallen asleep? And what went through your head when you woke up?
One time, I fell asleep on a train in London, England, that was taking us back to Gatwick where we were staying. I ended up missing my stop and going too far. I woke up in a panic and got off at the next stop. I quickly exited the platform and with the help of a local, got on one of the last trains of the night going back to my destination. It wasn’t funny at the time, but makes for a good story now.

What is something interesting about you that most people don’t know?
I am a huge Drake fan.
I am a twin.
In high school, I spent my winters swimming seven times a week and didn’t run at all.

What would be some of the most annoying things about having you as a roommate?
Having to listen to my music on a regular basis. I am a big hip hop fan and Drake would be heard through my speaker quite often.

If you joined the circus, what would your circus act be?
Since all I can do is juggle and do flips, I could be some sort of juggling trampoline act.

Join us in Kingston on Saturday, Nov. 24, to watch Corey go for the title of National Champion at the 2018 Canadian Cross Country Championshipsor tune in to AthleticsCanada.tv if you can’t be there in person.
