Athlete Bio

Tim Nedow grew up playing – and standing out – in several different sports. On top of athletics, he played football in high school and had committed to Queen’s University as a basketball player, but track and field kept calling him.

Rather than pounding the hardwood in Kingston, he followed his athletics dreams to Tulsa University, then later to DePaul University. His NCAA career was marked by conference titles in both Conference USA and the Big East.

Nedow made his international debut at the 2009 Pan American Junior Championships where he won bronze in shot put. In 2012, he etched his name in the Canadian record book with a U23 record throw of 20.51 metres. He went on to compete at the 2011 and 2013 Summer Universiade before making his first appearance at a senior global event, the 2013 IAAF World Championships. He capped his 2013 season with a bronze medal in the shot put at the Jeux de la Francophonie.

Nedow earned the first of his two Commonwealth Games bronze medals in 2014. In 2013, 2014 and 2015 he was a double National Champion in both discus and shot put. He competed in both events at the Pan American Games in Toronto, winning silver in his primary event, the shot put, and setting a personal best of 61.49 metres in the discus.

His strong run continued as he qualified for his first Olympic Games in Rio in 2016. Nedow finished 16th in the qualifying round, narrowly missing advancing to the final. In 2018, Nedow earned his second Commonwealth Games bronze medal, as well as a silver medal at the NACAC Championships in Toronto. He turned in solid performances in 2019, finishing fourth at the Pan American Games in Lima, Peru, while finishing ninth at the 2019 World Athletics Championships in Doha, Qatar.

With much of the 2020 outdoor season cancelled due to pandemic restrictions, Nedow was motivated to come out strong in 2021, surpassing the Olympic shot put standard in his first outdoor meet, throwing 21.11 metres at the Throws U Spring Series event in Kutztown, Pa., in April.

Eyeing what he has said would be his final Olympic Games, Nedow will look to put it all together in Tokyo.
