Athletics Canada announces plans for 2016 Bruny Surin Celebrity Challenge

Athletics Canada and the Bruny Surin Foundation announced plans today for the 2016 Bruny Surin Celebrtiy Challenge. The event will happen Saturday February 20, in coordination with the 2016 Hershey Canadian Indoor Championships, February 19 to 21 in Montreal.

The format for the 2016 Bruny Surin Celebrity Challenge will be a 4x50-metres relay, with both women’s and men’s races. $1,000 to the charity of their choice is up for grabs for the winning teams. Bruny Surin on the event, “We’re mixing it up this year, I will personally find eight team captains (four men and four women) and they are free to complete their relay rosters.” Surin adds, “I am excited to announce our first male team captain, Étienne Boulay, winner of the 2015 Bruny Surin Celebrity Sprint Challenge.” 

Last February the Bruny Surin Celebrity Sprint Challenge was a 60-metres race which also featured two-time Olympic gold medallist Alexandre Bilodeau, MMA star Patrick Côté, boxer Lucian Bute, retired NHL player Georges Laraque, UFC legend Georges St-Pierre, and Firas Zahabi.

The 2016 Hershey Canadian Indoor Championships are a national championship for youth and junior aged-athletes, also featuring international and Canadian stars in select invitational events.
