Athletics Canada Revises Vaccination Policy

Athletics Canada announced an update today to its vaccination policy for individuals attending or participating in Athletics Canada activities.

As provinces across Canada have started lifting mandatory vaccine passport requirements, Athletics Canada has updated its policy to follow the latest public health guidelines in place in the jurisdiction hosting the organization’s events, activities, or meetings.

Effective immediately, all athletes, coaches, fans, volunteers, media and event staff and contractors on site for an Athletics Canada event or activity will be required to comply with local public health guidelines. Not every jurisdiction has the same policies, participants are advised to know what current public health policies are in place at the host destination.

“From the very start of the pandemic we have worked to ensure a safe environment for everyone participating in an Athletics Canada event, implementing policies based on the most current expert health and safety protocols. Nothing has changed in that regard, we take our responsibility to athletes, coaches, staff, and contractors seriously. As the pandemic and health advice has evolved, so must our policies” said Athletics Canada interim Chief Executive Officer Mathieu Gentès. “We will continue to make decisions with people’s best interests in mind as we embark on a busy 2022 competition season.”

While some public health policies have been lifted in various Canadian provinces and communities, athletes, coaches, and support personnel are advised that certain international events still require proof of vaccination. Athletes and coaches should be aware of any vaccine requirements or other policies they will need to comply with when competing or training abroad.

As well, the High Performance Hubs in Victoria, B.C., and York, Ont., will have their own policies aligned with local COPSIN rules and our team doctors’ advice on best practices. High performance international training camps and competitions will also have their own policies aligned with federal travel rules, local guidelines, and our doctors’ advice on best practices.
