We have two weeks’ worth of action to recap. It is officially Back to School for the kids and the track and field season slowly transitions to the road race and cross country season. A little different this year, Athletics Canada and Athletic.net has you covered for the 5 km discipline, hosting the first ever Canadian Virtual 5km Challenge!
Entering September, many postponed events continued to run on schedule, with Lindsey Butterworth and Matt Hughes heading across the pond in Belgium.
Competing in her first Diamond League competition of the year, Butterworth competed in the women’s 1000 metre race, finishing in third place with a time of 2:37.26. On Saturday, the B.C. native raced in her bread and butter event, the 800 metres at the KBC Night of Athletics, where she finished with a season’s best, 2:01.69 and second place.
Continuing his European tour, Hughes stepped onto the track for the men’s 1500 metres at the KBC Night of Athletics, finishing with a personal-best time of 3:39.84, nearly two-seconds faster than his previous best of 3:41.49.

Back in North America, Ben Flanagan was also in personal-best shape, as he ran to a third place finish at the Under Armour Sunset Tour in Los Angeles, stopping the clock at 28:06.88 in the men’s 10,000 metre race.
At the HOKA Distance Carnival, Rory Linkletter tried his skills in the One Hour event, running a total of 19,126 metres and clocking 50:11.67 at the 10-mile mark.
Brittany Crew continues to stay busy in the throwing circle, winning not only the Niagara Olympic Club shot put with a throw of 18.32 metres, but adding another victory to her season at the Back to Track meet in Brampton with a mark of 17.74 metres. Her shot put winning-streak now stands at five competitions.
