2021 Canadian 10,000m Championships
Pacific Distance Carnival
The 2021 Pacific Distance Carnival & Canadian 10,000m Championships is a Track & Field meet designed to bring new excitement (Think Music, Pyrotechnics, & Drummers) to long distance track racing while also offering Canadian & International Athletes an ideal environment to achieve personal best performances in the lead up to the 2021 Tokyo Olympics. The Pacific Distance Carnival offers both Olympic and Paralympic competitions as well as opportunities for the next generation of athletes to compete alongside current and future Olympians who will compete in the National 10,000m Championships.

1500m
The 1500m is 2 laps of fun followed by 2 minutes of lactic heaven and we are giving anyone that wants at it the chance to hop on Swangard’s sweet rubber surface and give it a go. Come one come all! (Targeted towards U18, U20, & Senior aged athletes)
10,000m
Open to both Canadian and International Athletes, the 2021 Canadian 10,000m Championship Event promises to be the highlight of the night! 25 laps of burn baby burn! This is not your average 10,000m and the name of the game is SPEED. In order to facilitate the speed we are setting the entry standards accordingly. Not racing? Grab a piece of the rail and cheer on Canada’s current and future Olympians!
Men: 31:30 (5,000m Equivalent: 14:53.00)
Women: 36:00 (5,000m Equivalent: 17:03.00)
Qualifying Window: January 1, 2019 – June 6th, 2021.
Open to both Canadian & International Athletes.
If you do not meet the above minimum entry marks in the qualifying window please email the High Performance Director, Richard Lee to request entry.
10,000m Travel Grants
Athletes (located outside of the Lower Mainland) are encouraged to apply for one of eight $500 travel assistance grants (4 male, 4 female). Deadline to apply is June 6th, 2021. Apply here.
*Non-Canadians are encouraged to apply but Top Canadian athletes will be be given preference.

Hilton Vancouver Metrotown
This Burnaby hotel is a perfect base for guests who want to discover and explore nearby Vancouver. Located steps away from the Metropolis at Metrotown mall, guests can shop for a bargain or try a restaurant in British Columbia’s biggest entertainment and shopping center. The Hotel is also one block away from the Skytrain station which makes it convenient to visit Downtown Vancouver in 20 minutes.
Venue/Weather
Swangard Stadium is centrally located in the city of Burnaby, BC with rapid transit options only a short walk away. The stadium can hold 4,500 spectators and has a strong history of hosting World Class Track & Field Competitions, including the annual Harry Jerome Track Classic. The Eight lane, 400 metre World Athletics certified track was resurfaced in 2017.

We have identified Mid-June as the ideal date for these championships based on historical weather averages. Typical daytime highs are reported at 19.6 degrees while lows are reported at an average of 12.2 degrees with low relative humidity. We plan to contest these Championships late in the evening, after sunset, to take advantage of cooler temps and light winds.
