Mayor John Tory proclaims August 10, 2018, as Track & Field Day in the 6ix

CN Tower and 3-D Toronto sign to be illuminated in event colours

OTTAWA – To signal the start of the 2018 NACAC Championships / Toronto 2018: Track & Field in the 6ix, the City of Toronto will raise the Championships flag on the courtesy flag pole at City Hall. The flag will be flown from Thursday, Aug 10, until Sunday, Aug. 12, when more than 500 of the world’s top track and field athletes, including 23 athletes who enter the competition ranked Top 5 in the world, compete at Varsity Stadium.

In advance of the fan-friendly Nathan Phillips Square Track & Field Takeover held in June, Mayor John Tory proclaimed that Thursday, Aug. 10, will be known as Track & Field Day in the 6ix in the City of Toronto. To view the Mayor’s official proclamation, please click here.

As part of Track & Field in the 6ix festivities on Aug. 10, the CN Tower, an awe-inspiring architectural and engineering wonder of the world that is a symbol of pride for Toronto residents and all Canadians, will shine bright in the event colours – red, yellow and blue – at the top of every hour from sunset right through until sunrise the next day.

The 3D Toronto sign, located at Nathan Phillips Square, will also be illuminated at 6 a.m. on Aug. 10 in a similar bright colour scheme until 6 a.m. on Aug. 11. Please note, that the best time to capture an image of the iconic Toronto sign is from dusk until dawn.

Athletes, team officials and spectators alike are encouraged to visit these Toronto landmarks to captured unique photos and memories of their time in the city.
