Q & A with Farah Jacques – 2015 Hershey Canadian Indoor Championships

  1. You looked strong at the recent McGill Team Challenge, how has your training been going this past fall and now winter?

Indeed, I feel stronger and more confident concerning my performances.  I train very hard to achieve my goals.  I am quite determined.  Quite simply, I want to be amongst the best athletes in Canada.  My workouts are very difficult and my coaches, Glenroy Gilbert and Marc Éli-Toussaint, are really helping me and pushing me to surpass myself daily, in training as well as in competition.  Last Fall training sessions were very demanding, and it bore fruits for my winter season.  I continue to train very hard for this summer’s competitions that are approaching quite quickly.

  1. How would you rate your 2014 season? And what, if any, lessons did you learn last year that will help you in the future?

I think that the 2014 season was a good one for me.  That season was a kind of transition for me towards International level.  I feel that the most important thing that I learned was not to worry about the others, but to stay focused on my performance.  I’m aware that most high level athletes went through the same process, so I’m quite confident.

  1. What role does the indoor season play as you prepare for a year that featuring the Pan Am Games and World Championships?

The 2015 indoor season is very important for me.  It allows me to prepare for a summer that will include many major international competitions, as the Pan Am Games and the World Championships.  I use this indoor season to improve myself and fix a few technical details to become a better runner.  As for my performances, they help me judge my progression.  I think the 2015 indoor season is a good one for me so far, and I’m confident about what’s to follow.

  1. What specific elements of your race or fitness are you focusing on this winter and this year?

This winter, I do a lot of strength and fitness training to be able to develop to the maximum my power and endurance.  Also, I try to improve my running technique.

  1. With the AC Indoor Open being in Montreal are there any memories of a competition or the city itself that you'd like to share? What do you like best about competing in Montreal?

I am from Montreal.  But these past few years I’ve lived in Gatineau to go to university.  The Claude-Robillard Centre is where I trained for more than 4 years with my club – Perfmax.  So I’m proud that the Canadian Indoor Championships are at home.  I’m quite happy to compete on a track with which I’m very familiar.  This track will remind me of all those good memories of training and competing when I was young.

  1. What are your goals for 2015?

One of my objectives for 2015 is to finish in the top 3 at the Canadian Championships in Edmonton.  I also would like to be selected for the World Championships. From a general development perspective, I try to adopt the best running technique that suits me, knowing that no one really has the perfect running technique.
