Santos brings the house down on day 2 of Hershey Indoor Champs

The second day of the 2015 Hershey Athletics Canada Indoor Championships finished with a record-setting performance from Luguelin Santos. While no world record was broken, the 2012 Olympic silver medallist set a new Dominican Republic 600m record by winning in a time of 1:16.01. After rabbiting the Wannamaker Mile last weekend in New York, American Mark Wieczorek placed a solid 2nd in 1:17.04, followed by Dai Greene of Great Britain in 3rd.

2012 Olympic finalist Phylicia George of Markham, Ont., took control early in the 60m hurdles and cruised to victory in 8.28. Fellow Olympian Nikkita Holder of Pickering, Ont., Karelle Edwards of Ottawa, Ont., and junior aged-athlete Mariam Abdul-Rashid of Oshawa, Ont., rounded out the top 4.

Olympian and 2013 IAAF Championships bronze medallist Damian Warner of London, Ont., contested the men’s long jump in Montreal. The multi-event star won and tied his personal best in the event with a jump of 7.62m.

In the 5000m Race Walk, Marek Adamowicz of St-Bruno-de-Montarville, Que., broke his own Canadian Junior record for the second week in a row. Adamowicz chopped off more than 45 seconds crossing the line in 21:09.09. Another Canadian record received a scare on Saturday as Arielle Bykovskaia-Dominiqueran ran in 8.58 in the 60m hurdles to miss out on the Youth record by a mere .05 seconds.
