Athletics Canada’s East Hub to host third High Performance Coaching Clinic on Feb. 17

Athletics Canada announced today that it will host a High Performance Coaching Clinic at its East Hub in Toronto on Saturday, Feb. 17 – the third in an on-going series. The monthly clinics are being offered as a professional development service to coaches and to advance the culture of coaching excellence in Canada.

The Feb. 17 clinic will cover various topics from strength training to coaching athletes in multiple disciplines, in addition to an overview of Athletics Canada’s NextGen program. Coaches will hear from several guest speakers, including Boo Schexnayder, a leading authority in training design.

Speakers scheduled to take part in the coaching clinic include, Jordan Foley (strength and conditioning coach for the University of Guelph football team, Triathlon Canada NTC Guelph and Speed River Track & Field Club), Kurt Downes (sprints coach at Border City Athletics Club and the University of Windsor) and Danielle Chow-Leong (national team veteran and massage therapist). Carla Nicholls and Molly Killingbeck will also discuss Athletics Canada’s NextGen program.

Location: York Lions Stadium - North Lounge (Ian MacDonald Blvd., Toronto, Ont., M3J 1P3, across the street from the Toronto Track and Field Centre)

Cost: $50, includes lunch

9 a.m. - 9:10 a.m.: Opening remarks (Glenroy Gilbert)
9:10 a.m. - 10:10 a.m.: Advanced warm-up design (Boo Schexnayder)
10:20 a.m. - 11:20 a.m.: Strength and conditioning - 10 years, 10 lessons (Jordan Foley)
11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.: Coaching athletes in multiples disciplines – 60-metres to 600-metres and everything in between (Kurt Downes)
12:30 p.m. - 1 p.m.: Lunch
1 p.m. - 2 p.m.: Linking rehabilitation and training; Planning for return to competition (Boo Schexnayder)
2:10 p.m. - 3:10 p.m.: Examining the sprint start (Boo Schexnayder)
3:20 p.m. - 4:20 p.m.: A coach’s guide to applying therapy in your program (Danielle Chow-Leong)
4:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.: Training group management (Boo Schexnayder)
5:30 p.m. - 5:40 p.m. Closing remarks (Glenroy Gilbert)
5:40 p.m. - 7 p.m. Social/discussion
