Brown

When Alicia Brown made the change from soccer to athletics as a teenager, she started the sprint to becoming a two-time Olympian.

Being raised with a special appreciation and value for sport, Brown has wanted to compete for Team Canada from a young age. Growing up, watching the Olympic Games was a huge source of inspiration for her and she would love to give that excitement and hope to someone else.

She enjoyed a breakout season in 2013 when she was crowned national champion in the 400 metres and was also the OUA women’s track MVP for the University of Toronto. With the Varsity Blues she won the 2013 CIS 300-metre and 4x200-metre titles. Competing at the 2013 Summer Universiade, Brown finished fifth in the 400 metres with a then personal best 52.08 seconds and was a member of the silver medal-winning 4x400-metre relay team.

Brown ran a then personal best 51.84 seconds to finish second in the 400 metres at the 2016 Canadian Championships & Olympic Trials, going under the Olympic entry standard. At Rio 2016, Brown ran the second leg for the 4x400-metre relay team, which finished fourth, setting a new Canadian record and scoring Canada’s best result in the event since Barcelona 1992.

In 2017, Brown joined the Canadian 4x400-metre relay team at the World Relays where they finished 10th. In 2018 they won bronze at the NACAC Championships in Toronto. Brown and the 4x400-metre relay team narrowly missed the podium at the World Relays in 2019 before making her return to the World Athletics Championships with the 4x400-metre relay team later that year.

In 2021, Brown won three 400-metre races at Athletics Canada’s Tokyo Qualifier Series meets, setting a new personal best at the last event in Montreal. She also won the national 400-metre crown at the Canadian Olympic Trials, helping her secure her ticket to her second Olympic Games.
