Triple Olympic medallist Andre De Grasse and Commonwealth Games Champion Alysha Newman to attend press conference and street exhibition tomorrow

Ottawa Athletics Canada, in partnership with NACAC and the City of Toronto, will host a press conference in advance of its Nathan Phillips Square Track & Field Takeover tomorrow.

The four-hour event will feature a Run, Jump, Throw, Wheel clinic for children 6-12 years of age, a press conference and street exhibition that will include two 60-metre sprints, a men’s high jump competition and woman’s pole vault demonstration. The festivities will wrap-up with an All Comers Speed Challengewhere sprinters and fans alike can test their speed on the 60-metre Mondo track for a chance to win Championships Passes to Toronto 2018: Track & Field in the 6ix.

What: Track and field street exhibition, press conference, grassroots initiatives and open sprint challenge

When: Tuesday, June 12, 2018

10 a.m. – Run, Jump, Throw, Wheel (grassroots programming, featuring special guests Andre De Grasse and Alysha Newman)

11 a.m. – Press conference
-Victor Lopez, NACAC President
-Mathieu Gentès, Athletics Canada’s Chief Operating Officer
-Andre De Grasse, triple Olympic medallist, Canadian Champion and Canadian record-holder (men’s 200-metres and 4x100-relay)
-Alysha Newman, Commonwealth Games gold medallist, Canadian Champion and Canadian record-holder (women’s pole vault – indoor and outdoor)

11:30 a.m. – Men’s high jump

12:15 p.m. – Men’s 60-metres

12:20 p.m. – Women’s 60-metres

12:30 p.m. – Women’s pole vault

1 p.m. – All Comers Speed Challenge (open to men and women of all ages)
