Canadian shot put record holder Sarah Mitton just won her first career Diamond League medal in Stockholm on Thursday.
The 26-year-old threw for 19.90 metres, beating all throwers in the field but American Chase Ealey, the top thrower in the world this year. In Mitton's six throws, she threw farther than 19 metres four times: a mark that only two women in Canadian history have reached.
Mitton is currently ranked third in the world in the shot put, and today was named to Team Canada for the upcoming World Athletics Championships in Eugene, Oregon.
Her silver medal was the sixth medal won by Canada in Diamond League events this year.
