Victoria Day weekend wrapped up and Team Canada brought the fireworks to meets in Europe and the States.
Record books were re-written and medals were collected. If you missed a minute of it from the campground, the cottage or the pool, let’s get you back on track.
Smeenk Strikes Twice in Europe
Austin Smeenk set a new standard in the men's T34 800 metres Thursday in Switzerland. His time of 1:40.30 is a new Canadian and Americas area record, pending ratification.
While that would be enough to call any trip a success, Smeenk also set a new Canadian and Americas area record on Saturday, setting a new T34 400 metres record with a time of 49.60 seconds.
Bouchard Adds to the Fun in Switzerland
Anthony Bouchard made his own history across the pond, crushing a new Personal Best in the T52 400 metres on Saturday. His new time to beat is 1:04.37.
Heppenstall Steps On Top of the Podium
Rob Heppenstall won the men's 1,500-metre final on Sunday at the USATF Bermuda Grand Prix
with a time of 3:41.83.
Mitton’s Golden Throw
Sarah Mitton continued her strong spring by winning the women’s shot put event at the USATF Throws Festival in Arizona. Her second attempt sailed 19.58 metres to capture the crown. Her first throw (19.34 metres) was actually the second-longest throw of the event, too.
De Grasse Had a Day
Andre De Grasse finished second in the men’s 200 metre final in Bermuda with a wind-aided time of 20.28 seconds. De Grasse's time would have been a season's best, but the wind exceeded the legal limit of two metres per second.
Earlier in the day, the six-time Olympic medallist finished 7th in the 100 metres, with a time of 10.16 seconds.
