Boxed in with 500-metres to go, Brent Lakatos of Dorval, Que., wasn’t about to be denied his  tenth world championship title. Lakatos found an opening with 300-metres to go and powered away to win the men’s T53 800-metre final in 1:40.14. “It feels great…Everything is just going amazing in here,” explained Lakatos.

And he’s still got one more distance to race, the 100-metres and Lakatos is excited to see what he can do. “The 100 is still my most favourite so I am looking forward to it. It is gonna be a good race on Sunday,” said Lakatos.

Renée Foessel of Orangeville, Ont., set a North American record of 30.88m in the second round of the women’s F38 discus.  Going into the final round, Foessel sat in bronze medal position. A final round throw by Li Yingli of China bumped her off the podium and Foessel’s final throw wasn’t quite enough to claim a medal. Jennifer Brown of Calgary, placed sixth in the competition with a best throw of 27.46m.

Austin Smeenk of Oakville, Ont., went to the front early in the men’s T34 800-metre final. A valiant effort from the young racer, but it was tough going over the final 200-metres as Smeenk finished in ninth place.
