Caraballeda, Venezuela – Canada’s Branna MacDougall of Kingston, Ont., (21:31.33) and Madelaine Ghazarian of Cambridge, Ont., (21:31.72) went first and second in the women’s junior 6km race today at the 2016 Panamerican Cross Country Cup in Venezuela. The 1-2 finish secured a Canadian victory for the junior women’s team.
Other Canadian highlights included Sasha Gollish of Toronto, Ont., winning silver in the senior women’s 10km race in 37:53.23.
Also in the junior women’s race Christina Sevsek of Surrey, B.C., finished 5th (22:37.19), and Danielle Josinett of Cobourg, Ont., 9th (23:25.58).
In other results in the women’s senior 10km race Lisa Brooking of Orillia, Ont., was 5th (38:12.08), Laura Desjardins of Tiny, Ont., 12th (39:11.38), and Julie-Anne Staehli of Lucknow, Ont., 16th (39:57.56).
The men’s junior team finished second overall in the 8km race with Cameron Linscott of Kingston, Ont., in 4th (26:38.66), Ehab El-Sandali of Toronto, Ont., in 7th (27:06.83), Mitchell Ubene of Tecumseh, Ont., 14th (27:40.90), and Benjamin Workman of Kingston, Ont., in 16th (28:05.77).
In the men's senior 10km race Nicholas Falk of Windsor, Ont., was the top Canadian placing 10th in 32:42.30. Evan Esselink of Courtice, Ont., was 15th (33:42.82) and Ryan Cassidy of Grande-Digue, N.B., did not finish.
