Creating a barrier-free environment should be holistic and consider the needs of all athletes, including those who use wheelchairs, those who have a vision or intellectual impairment, and any other needs. When we consider the concept of universal design when evaluating our physical environments, we see that building an accessible, barrier-free space benefits everyone.
